From Gretzky.com Blog:

Canadian baseball hero, Justin Morneau and wife, Krista made a surprise visit to Wayne’s winery located in Vineland, Ontario this week.  Justin and Krista visited for an hour enjoying No. 99 Estate whites and No. 99 Estate reds.  Both talked about their own private wine cellar and how they enjoyed drinking our wines with Wayne and Janet.  Justin especially appreciated the Wayne Gretzky Estate Shiraz Ice Wine.  A great ending to Justin and Krista’s visit was meeting winemaker Craig McDonald.  Click HERE to learn more about Wayne Gretzky Estate Wines.

Stressing and out

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Items that Defy Classification

Wikipedia - A stress fracture is one type of incomplete fracture of bones.  It is caused by unusual or repeated stress.  This is in contrast to other types of fractures, which are usually characterized by solitary severe impact.

It could be described as a very small sliver or crack in the bone, this is why it is sometimes dubbed “hairline fracture”.  It typically occurs in weight-bearing bones, such as the tibia and metatarsals.  It is a common sports injury and most cases are associated with athletics.

Van Goghed

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Items that Defy Classification

Justin Morneau left the Twins in Texas and flew back to Minnesota to see a specialist about the inner ear infection that has kept him out of the last two games.  The hope is that JMo will be able to avoid being placed on the disabled list and play in either series at Kansas City or the upcoming home series against the Baltimore Orioles.

2009 All Star Game recap

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Collectibles, Events, Items that Defy Classification, Stats and Milestones

Justin Morneau entered the 2009 All Star Game in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Morneau replaced starter Mark Texeira at 1B and was inserted into the lead-off spot in the batting order.

JMo took two throws from former teammate Jason Bartlett to record the 2nd and 3rd outs of the bottom of the 6th inning (Albert Pujols and Justin Upton).

Morneau’s first at-bat came in the top of the 7th inning.  After falling behind National League pitcher Francisco Cordero 0-2, Morneau worked the count even at 2-2 before lining out to 3rd baseman Ryan Zimmerman.

In the top of the 9th, Morneau faced single-season saves leader Francisco Rodriguez and ripped his first pitch to deep left center field.  Phillies outfielder Jayson Werth made a nice running catch to record the out and end the inning.

Morneau manned first base as Yankees closer Mariano Rivera finished off the NL.

Nostraonionus

Back in June of 2007 we posted a link to a very amusing story on The Onion which referred to the Twins and Justin Morneau. Who could have known that a year later, and after Justin won the 2008 Home Run Derby, the clown-check presenter from State Farm would actually make the error referred to in The Onion’s story?

From The Onion….Minnesota Twins squandered a large late-game lead to the Brewers, but then won the game when Jason [sic] Morneau hit a walkoff home run….

Quest for the Cup

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Items that Defy Classification

A Twins road trip and off day have once again worked out perfectly for Justin Morneau. Last year the Twins were in Anaheim, allowing Justin to catch game 5 of the Anaheim Ducks vs. Ottawa Senators series. Anaheim finished off Ottawa and Morneau was able to hoist the cup.

This year, JMo and Kevin Slowey are staying in Detroit an extra day to watch the Red Wings play Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals.

No word on which team Morneau is rooting for in the series.

Fans purchasing the new video game NHL2K8 can add The MVP to their team from the free agent pool of players. Morneau was added to the hockey game after a dinner with 2k Sports executives. Earlier this year Justin appeared on the cover of the The Bigs baseball game, also produced by 2k Sports.

The shots below show The MVP in the net for his hometown Canucks.

Fantasy Baseball Focus - All Star Break Edition

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Items that Defy Classification

Fantasy Baseball Analysis by Prof. A.L. Toro -

Heading into the All-Star break, Justin Morneau was swinging one of the hottest bats in baseball (3 HRs in one game will do that). The MVP is currently ranked 12th overall in Yahoo leagues (only his lack of steals is keeping him out of the top 10). Only Prince Fielder (#5) is ranked ahead of him for true first basemen. Torii Hunter edges him out at #10 for the top Twins player and Johan Santana follows closely behind at #16.

Justin leads all 1st basemen with 74 RBI and is second in home runs (24), runs scored (57), total bases (187) and triples (2). Fantasy owners have to be kicking themselves for passing on the AL MVP, thinking his 2006 season was a fluke. In fact, Morneau’s 2007 numbers at the break are slightly ahead of his numbers last year in most categories. Morneau’s HR and RBI numbers fell off after the break last year.

With a consistent second half and a healthy Joe Mauer back in the lineup, The MVP has a legitimate chance at 50 HR and 150 RBIs. Wouldn’t that be something!

Case of the Mondays

Posted by JustinMorneau.com in Items that Defy Classification

If everything goes as planned, The MVP will be making his way back to Minne on Monday. The Twins had hoped Morneau would accompany the team back Sunday night after the series finale with the Marlins but the decision was made to keep Justin in the hospital another night for observation.

Icky Thump (by The Jerry White Stripes)

Icky Thump
Who’da thunk?
Rounding third and heading home.

Ahh well
What a chump
Well my lung got a bump
When I hit it on Olivo.

Gardenhire
Looking dead
Come and said
“Need a bed?”
En Espanol.

I said
“Gimme a drink of water,
I’m going to need a little longer,
and go and pull Rincon.”
